ThankYOU for checking out my fundraising page. I am very excited to participate in this year's Lake Loop and to raise money for Lake Hopatcong. Proceeds for Lake Loop 2018 will go to the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, a 501c3 dedicated to improving Lake Hopatcong for everyone, now and in the years to come.
I grew up on the lake, boating, sailing, fishing and of course, swimming. And I count myself incredibly lucky that I had this opportunity in life and hope to give that same opportunity to my children someday when they go visit their grad parents. I'm so Now I have a chance to give back to the lake I love so much through the 2018 lake loop. Spending time on the lake gave me great memories with family and friends and unexpectantly taught me a lot about life and who I am. As a child, my parents signed me up for sailing classes and we were required to do a swimming test to prove that we were strong enough swimmers to be out on the open lake. If you failed the swim test you couldn't take sailing lessons, which I really wanted to try. The day of sign-ups was in May so the lake was still VERY cold and they said we needed to jump in and swim 2 laps without touching the docks between 2 LHYC docks, tread water for 5 minutes and then put on a life jacket in the water. I was a terrified 12-year-old who pretty much thought someone would be jumping in for me, but I was able to complete the test (with lots of encouragement from mom and dad and Mrs. Kitchen)! This swim test taught me a lot about myself as a person that I could persevere through anything that I put my mind to! Now as a doctoral student at the University of Delaware I often think back to that swim test and how even when I'm scared I can push through anything. There are so many tales I could tell of how this lake taught me about life (even just this past weekend) but anyway that I can help give back and conserve this lake for my own children and future generations is a blessing. Conserving our environment should be top on everyone's priority list!
I hope you will consider donating to this amazing cause to help preserve our lake, and just like it has in the past the lake will continue to challenge me to be my best with this event pushing me to my limits and making me prove that I can do anything.
Best,
Sophie
