Its that time of year again and October right around the corner, that only means one thing, The King Challenge is fast approching! This will be my fourth year riding in the King Challenge, I can't belive its been that long already. I really look forward to this ride every year because we get to ride on amazing New England roads, hang out with old friends and meet new ones, eat delicious food, and embrace and expand an already wonderful community.
Yes, all of that is amazing and we really enjoy the day however, we always have to remember the reason we are doing this is to raise money and spread awareness for The Krempels Center. The Krempels Center is aimed at improving the lives of adults with brain injury wether it be by stroke, traumatic brain injury, or a tumor. They offer programs and services that help contribute to building a new life after brain injuries.
On a more personal note, this deeply affects me in more ways than one. I have received concussions from ski racing and cycling, yes that is a really important part of this, however not as important to me at this moment. The most important reason I ride is my grandmother, who passed away in 2007 due to a brain tumor that developed. I was very young when she passed away, so I really didn't even get a chance to know her. From what I know she truly was amazing and I wish I had memories of her. All I have is the brick we got in her name, that is at Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, and that brick means so much to me.
I embrace the Krempels Center whole heartedly and believe in everything they do. Please help by either joining me on the ride and raising money on Saturday October 20th or supporting me by donating to my page, every cent helps.
King Challenge 2018
The King Challenge is a fundraising event benefitting Krempels Center, a Portsmouth, NH based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with acquired brain injury resulting from trauma, tumor or stroke.
What the ride is - The King Challenge is a fundraising event: participation comes with a commitment to raise minimum amounts to help support Krempels Center. Please see the Fundraising Section of our website for more details.
What the ride is not – This ride is not a race, it is designed to be an enjoyable day of cycling and camaraderie.
Three routes, of varying lengths, have been designed to accommodate a wide range of cycling abilities. Fundraising minimums have been set at easily-attainable levels and the focus is on family fun.
