I’ll be camping out in the cold in downtown Northampton, to support Cancer Connection, on February 27th. Yes, in FEBRUARY!

I know it sounds crazy.  After my brother Eliot died unexpectedly, on New Year’s Day, I’ve been thinking a lot about both of my brothers. It was Eliot who encouraged our entire family to raise money for cancer research just months after Mike died. We needed a way to turn our grief into something positive and honor his memory. I know Eliot would love Monte and this crazy event and that he’d be supportive (and really curious about the logistics). I know he’d encourage me to go for it.  Taking this on right now seems like a good way for me to honor both of my brothers and the impact losing them both has had on me.

55… That's how old my brother Michael was when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He died 5 months later.

I turned 55 on my last birthday. Every day I say to myself, "This is how old my brother was when he died." I remember thinking how old 55 seemed to my then 34 year old self.  Now that I'm 55, I understand more than ever how young he was.

I also remember how hard it was for our entire family when Mike was diagnosed and going through cancer treatment.

Cancer Connection didn't exist then. Thankfully, it does now.

Cancer Connection offers a haven where people with cancer, their loved ones and caregivers can learn to cope with the physical and emotional turmoil that is part of a cancer diagnosis and to explore ways to enhance their strength, their hope and their care through support groups (including one specifically for families and caregivers), integrative therapies, creative activities and education. All services are offered FREE of charge.

That’s why I'm helping Monte raise funds for Cancer Connection by camping out in the cold in downtown Northampton – in FEBRUARY!

I hope you'll consider making a donation by February 27th and help me reach my goal of $2,100 ($100 for each year since my brother died from colon cancer).

If you’re in the area, listen to WRSI all day on 2/27 (and at least through the morning on the 28th). Stop by the old courthouse in town and check out my tentJ.

Your gift, which is tax deductible, will go directly to Cancer Connection to support this important work. If you want to learn more about Cancer Connection's free programs and services, visit the website: www.cancer-connection.org.

Thank you for your support!
