I'm helping Monte raise funds for Cancer Connection by camping out in the cold in downtown Northampton on February 27th! Or maybe it will be balmy. It's hard to tell these days. But what I do know is that your support will help me sleep better in my little tent set up on the courthouse lawn, no matter what the temperature.
Cancer Connection has been dear to my heart since it began in 2000. I was in on the early planning and naming phase of its creation; I facilitated a couple of the earliest programs and, later, co-led canoeing and writing weekend camping trips; as a two-time breast cancer survivor, I have participated in many of its programs -- rowing, yoga, writing, for example -- and been the beneficiary of many of its integrative therapies -- massage, Reiki, reflexology; I've been on the board of directors since 2007, serving as president since 2016; and I am an avid volunteer, donor, and shopper at the Cancer Connection Thrift Shop. As you can see, Cancer Connection is a central part of my life these days.
Please help me support the hundreds of people in Western Massachusetts and beyond who are living with cancer, along with their loved ones, who benefit from Cancer Connection's one-to-one guidance, support, and programs. Cancer Connection offers a haven where people with cancer, their loved ones and caregivers get support to cope with the physical and emotional turmoil that is part of a cancer diagnosis and to explore ways to enhance their strength and hope through support groups, integrative therapies, creative activities, and education. All services are offered free of charge.

Cancer Connection Campout
Due to the overwhelming amount of love towards our favorite local cancer organization, Cancer Connection, and due to the overwhelming feedback from previous campers, we are camping out again. And we are camping out again...in the cold. And this time, for more dramatic effect, we are camping out in even more coldness.
Starting 6AM Wednesday February 27th (Yes. FEBRUARY!) until at least 10AM the following morning, we will be back out on the old courthouse lawn in Northampton.

Monte started the event 13 years ago as a publicity stunt and raised $5,000 camping out by himself. Over the years, together with the fundraising our amazing campers have done, he has helped Cancer Connection raise $523,000 and a priceless amount of awareness.
