For the cost of that Coffee or GoBerry...
Catchy subject line, huh?
As you may know I accomplished a HUGE lifetime goal and faced my
fears (and any insecurity) by learning to ride a bike at the age of 30!
It has simply brought me so much joy and is a new passion in my life
(see Facebook Photo albums). To celebrate this milestone in my life I
have decided to take on my first ever charity bike riding event called
Will Bike For Food.
WILL BIKE 4 FOOD: Is a local fundraiser benefiting the Western MA Food
Bank where participants not only pledge to raise funds but raise
awareness about hungry by also committing to biking a 25 mile, 50 mile
or 100 mile route.
I'm am committing to biking a minimum of 25
miles around Western MA on Sept 17th and have
pledge to raise $175-
--and you all know I keep my promises!
Will
Bike 4 Food is particularly important to me as I believe personal help
and wellness is the first step toward any liberation effort. Food
Justice to me is taking action to make sure that all people have access
to not just food, a vital human necessity, but also have CHOICE and
DIETARY NEEDS meet. I volunteer for Northampton Surv
ival
Center's Food Pantry, a beneficiary to the Western MA Food Bank. I talk
with individuals and families every week about how being able to access
such a great resource makes a difference in their lives. Plus the Food
Bank partners with local farms and retailers (Esselon, River Valley
Market, Stop n Shop, Woodstar, etc.) to make sure clients have CHOICE in
food items that are nutritious, fresh and support a variety of dietary
needs (diabetic, gluten-free, vegetarian/vegan, kosher, etc.).
As the summer has progressed, the pantry supply and food options have been drastically dwindling down. During
my shift today were ran out of food items such as milk, meat and canned
vegetables...And for those with specific dietary needs, often times
these families and individuals are unable to take home their full month's supply of food due to food shortage.
For
ever $1 I raise it is worth $13 worth of food for the Western MA Food
Bank. Think about it: the money you spend on a latte, bottled water or
GoBerry treat would be worth about $50+ worth of food...which would be
just under a month's supply of food for an individual.
Please consider donating. If
you do not have money to donate, I will also be more than happy to
collect any food donations (and maybe even bike to your house) to
personally donate the items on your behalf. :-)
Thanks so much in advance for your support!
