Welcome to my fundraising page for Tour De Rhody. I'm excited to challenge myself on the hills of northwestern Rhode Island this September in support of local cancer research with global impact the Brown University Oncology Research Group. I hope you are able to contribute in support of my ride. Any amount is appreciated. Even better, come join me!
I want to share my story with everyone as to why I am riding in the Tour De Rhody this year. This has been a very challenging year for everyone due to the Pandemic, but it has been a very challenging year for me as I lost my life partner due to a traumatic ruptured bleeding brain aneurysm and also lost my dog who was my best friend.
I will be riding in memory of my Mom who I lost to Cancer in November of 2017. I am also riding in memory of Sherrie-Ann Tavares, Richard Andrade, Leo Arbec and John Pereira who all suffered from this horrible disease. Also to the people that I know and love that are Cancer survivors.
I am also dedicating my ride in memory of the love of my life and life partner Mark Rodrigues who just passed away on April 8, 2020 unexpectedly and way to soon in life, especially before the birth of his first grandchild. His grandchild decided to enter the world 9 weeks early on May 11, 2020. She is healthy, beautiful and doing great, Miss Abigail Thounhurst-Congratulations to Marks daughter Jacki Thounhurst and her husband Anthony on the birth of their first child and to Mark on the birth of his first grandchild that he sadly never got to meet, but he is definately watching down on her.
My last dedication is to my precious dog Blue who also just passed away on March 15, 2020, due to heart disease, in which he suffered a heart attack.
I have been down a real hard road this year with my losses but I will be riding along the hills of northwestern Rhode Island in memory of all my loved ones as they watch down on me riding to raise money for Cancer research.
My goal is to ride 25 miles. I will definitely try for more but my minimum will be 25 miles. Thank you for reading my story and for all your donations and support for such a great cause and I am honored to represent Team Lifespan
Tour De Rhody
Tour De Rhody is a road and gravel cycling tour to support the Brown University Oncology Research Group (BrUOG). Rides range from around 15 miles to closer to 50 miles with most routes all on the road, but an option to explore dirt road (gravel) riding as well.
The ride supports BrUOG, which was created in 1994 to coordinate clinical cancer research for Brown’s affiliated hospitals and Alpert Medical School. BrUOG’s main mission is to improve cancer care through the implementation of innovative, multidisciplinary cancer clinical trials. BrUOG provides the infrastructure for the efficient development and implementation of these trials, which are created by Brown University faculty. Learn more about BrUOG here.
In its first year in 2019, Tour De Rhody raised over $18,000 to support cancer research in Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts. With your support we can continue to grow!
Tour De Rhody began in 2019 as a road and gravel ride to support the Brown University Oncology Research Group (BrUOG) which coordinates clinical cancer research for Brown’s affiliated hospitals and Alpert Medical School faculty. In our first year we raised over $18,000 to support local cancer research and care. Despite COVID in 2020 we blew this away raising over $50,000 and we plan to grow every year. Please join us through riding, volunteering or supporting us as we bring better and innovative cancer care to Rhode Islanders and beyond.
