Each year, nearly 250,000 U.S. males are diagnosed with prostate cancer--one man every 17 minutes. On average, 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives.
This year, I'm going to ride the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo cycling event again. The event seeks to raise funds for the Cancer Journeys Foundation Prostate Cancer Awareness Project; its mission is to help increase the rate of prostate cancer survivorship.
I am doing the ride again this year and am going to try to beat my time of 4h 49m from when I first did the ride 2 years ago. The ride starts in Harrisonburg and does a western loop climbing about 6,500 feet over about 80 miles. There is a longer ride that includes gravel roads, but I am whimping out of that one.

The purpose of the Cancer Journeys Foundation Prostate Cancer Awareness Project (PCAP) is to increase the rate of prostate cancer survivorship through awareness and early detection. The PCAP has developed a PSA tracking tool ProstateTracker and offers it free for all men.
Each year in the United States, approximately 240,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer - that's one man every 17 minutes. On average, 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. The good news is that research shows prostate cancer is very treatable, but only if it is discovered early, before it has metastasized. According to the American Cancer Society, survival rates are nearly 100-percent for men with prostate cancer that is found while it is still within the prostate gland or nearby areas.
Contributions made through this fundraising event will support the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project in its purpose to spread the message of prevention and early detection.
