Last year I rode 75 miles in the beautiful Hudson Valley to honor my mother, Marlene Slater, on her birthday, while supporting The Ride for Mental Health. This year I plan to ride 100 miles in her honor during The Ride for Mental Health in New Paltz, NY. Mom struggled with mental health – and its outcomes - her entire adult life. While she suffered immensely, it was clear she never had the resources necessary to help her manage its outcomes and survive her tribulations. Mom marched to the beat of her own drum and never sought social acceptance, perhaps because social acceptance was her becoming "normal". Despite her suffering, she managed to put her familycongregation, and community first and that is why I am again fundraising in her honor.

I pledge to raise $1,000 in honor of my mother, Marlene Slater. If you were in any way moved by my mother – or anyone that has suffered through mental health, please donate to this cause, and support me in ending the stigma associated with mental illness through education, awareness, and raising money for this ride. 100% of the proceeds raised will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, for the education, research, and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders, and substance abuse.

Thank you for your contributions,

Eric Appelbaum
