My family has been touched by everything from substance abuse, to mental illness, to Alzheimer's. The experience has made me protect my own mental health while participating in the care of loved ones. We couldn't do it without the support and expertise of mental health professionals and facilities like McClean Hospital.
This is my 4th event and I am dedicating my ride to two people. One is Peter Tripp, the son of my oldest friend, who passed away in April. Peter was a kind, generous young man who would help anyone but couldn't ask for himself.
The other is my mom, Mary Farrell, who died on Mother's Day from Alzheimer's Disease. She suffered for a long four years but my family was able to support her at home throughout her illness and we were with her when she passed, and for that I am very grateful.
I like to think Mom and Peter are together and looking after each other now. I just hope Peter brought a jacket because she will tell him he needs one.
Thank you for your support!
The Ride for Mental Health 2022
The Ride for Mental Health is one of the first rides in the country to benefit mental health. The proceeds raised will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, for the education, research, and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. Our mission is to raise funds for McLean so that we can help accelerate the progress being made to help others who suffer from mental illness.
We also hope to end the stigma surrounding mental illness through education and awareness. The promotion of this ride is a start. Many if not most of us are touched by close friends and relatives who have suffered from one type or another of mental illness.
