I am looking forward to pushing myself, becoming a stronger rider, and raising money for this amazing cause.
I'll be riding in honor and memory of my Mom, who suffered from mental illness for so many years. Had she been correctly diagnosed and treated, she might still be here today. The fact that she was gone at only 65 and suffered for so many years motivates me to raise money, raise awareness, and participate in this amazing cause.
If you'd like to ride with me in person or virtually -- let me know!! #rideawaythestigma
A few facts:
- Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S.—43.8 million—experience mental health issues in a given year.
- 40 million adults are affected by anxiety in the U.S.
- 14 million Americans are affected by borderline personality disorders at some time in their life.
And, COVID has exacerbated this for sure! Can I handle 25 miles as a new road rider on curvy, hilly mountain roads in New Paltz, NY, where my mom drove her taxi routes a million times? I'm not sure, but I'm going to do everything I can to be prepared!
As a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, I am also conducting personal training sessions in person or online and giving 100% of those proceeds to this event from now until the ride! Email me ([email protected]) or text me (919-985-4048) for details!
I appreciate your contribution to this worthwhile cause. Thank you for your support! ~Lecia
The Ride for Mental Health 2022
The Ride for Mental Health is one of the first rides in the country to benefit mental health. The proceeds raised will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, for the education, research, and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. Our mission is to raise funds for McLean so that we can help accelerate the progress being made to help others who suffer from mental illness.
We also hope to end the stigma surrounding mental illness through education and awareness. The promotion of this ride is a start. Many if not most of us are touched by close friends and relatives who have suffered from one type or another of mental illness.
