Savage SEAL Swimmers
Team Savage SEAL Swimmers is paired with Liberty House. Liberty House helps homeless and struggling Veterans by connecting them to available resources and providing a safe, substance-free transitional house.
In 1943, a German U-boat torpedo hit the USAT Dorchester. More than 600 servicemen were killed. Private Harold Paczosa was one of the servicemen lost. However, his memory lives on through his sister, Annette, and her gift of the family home to the VFW. Annette’s only request was that the house is used for military veterans and that a memorial stone honoring her brother be maintained at the house. Don Duhamel, a retired Air Force sergeant, partnered with the Manchester VFW to create Liberty House at the Paczosa’s family home. Since then, Veteran residents at Liberty House have worked together to rebuild confidence, enhance skills, and lead fulfilling substance-free lives. Liberty House has provided support and services to more than 300 formerly homeless veterans thanks to the generosity of donors, the community, and Annette (Paczosa) Nelson.
Liberty House Model:
Sobriety and Recovery, Mental and Physical Wellness, Meaningful Work, and Quality Housing
Zero Tolerance Policy:
Liberty House believe that recovery begins with sobriety and has a zero-tolerance policy regarding alcohol and/or drug use. They test at admission and randomly thereafter.
Small House Community:
Liberty House believe a small house community best supports a positive and supportive culture that best facilitates self-sufficiency and independence.
Community of Brothers and Sisters: Liberty House encourages and works to create a strong culture of Vets helping Vets. A significant component to residents’ path to self-sufficiency and independence is the culture created by fellow resident Veterans.
All of the money raised by this team will go to Liberty House.
Swim With A Mission
The 4th Annual Swim With A Mission, an Open Water Swim Race and Festival was scheduled for Saturday, July 11th at Wellington State Park in Bristol NH. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 we have shifted our event to a Virtual Event. We would much rather have our live event and are disappointed about the change but we know that it is necessary at this point. Even in these tough times, we hope you will help us stay true to our mission to raise money to help Veterans and inspire others to help.
Virtual Events are open to everyone and will take place from July 1-31. Participants can choose to swim (1K, 5K or 10K), paddle (1K, 5K or 10K) or take on the SEAL Team NH Challenge. All participants are encouraged to raise funds that will go to our Veterans who need our help more than ever. Swimmers can also choose to swim more than once during the month of July and they will be able to record distances and times. Go to www.swimwithamission.org for more details.
