The profile photo for my fundraising page is of my late mother-in-law, Beth Hubbard. She died this past September after undergoing cancer treatment and living with cancer for several years. Although our family's grief for Beth's all-too-young passing is profound, constant, and necessary, I am coming to you today in celebration of the extra time we had with her over the last few years. Beth's team of brilliant doctors and supporters, with their hands all over the latest research, beat back her cancer and gave our family so much more cherished quality time together than we would have otherwise had...years of being the best grandmother on Earth, of caretaking the most beautiful homestead, of knitting works of art, of hosting family gatherings, and of crushing anyone who dare challenge her at all manner of tabletop games. We desperately want more of those times, but today we must remember that we in fact had more of those times thanks to her cancer treatment.
On June 17th, I will be pedaling my way through the pioneer valley to raise money for Bikes Fight Cancer. 100% of all funds raised in the Bikes Fight Cancer Ride will support organizations that offer valuable cancer care services to patients, families, and caregivers as well as funding hospitals focused on advancing cancer research. Bikes Fight Cancer is an organization that has raised an enormous amount of money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute over the years.
Science is what can be thrown at cancer. And we can throw money at the science! $1. $5. $10. More? Anything. If you have a little time and a few bucks, please...please help me raise as much as possible to give to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. I'm ill-equipped to do anything other than help fundraise, but I'm desperate to do something. Please help me with that. Funding the science works, as evidenced by so many breakthroughs in recent decades and years. Breakthroughs like the Tagrisso treatment that gave Beth all that extra time.
There are also others very close to me whose cancer is retreating thanks to the latest advanced treatments. I'm sure you know someone too. This is one small thing I can do in the face of an otherwise monstrous, overwhelming problem. I can't do much, but I can do this. Please help me to help! Click the user-friendly, giant blue donate button on my fundraising page!
Better yet, use the registration link below and join me on the ride! It's a gorgeous, flat loop through the Pioneer Valley. If you ride with me there will be a mandatory chill pace with pastry stops. Yummy food and party times after. There are 25 and 50-mile options. Do it! Register here:
