I am riding in the 39th El Tour de Tucson in memory of my beautiful daughter, Phoebe Sallyann Regan.
Phoebe was born with a rare chromosomal abnormality, which caused life-threatening complications including Pulmonary Interstitial Glycogenosis and congenital heart defects. During Phoebe's hospital stays, Beads of Courage was there for us serving as an inspiration. Phoebe's sister, Hannah, was also touched by Beads of Courage. Hannah had a difficult time seeing her baby sister in the hospital, and missing her at home. The Beads of Courage sibling program helps the siblings of sick children find purpose and tell their stories. Hannah received beads that represented bravery, love and strength.
Beads of Courage helps children tell and own their stories, using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage and hope along their treatment journey. Every year, Beads of Courage distributes millions of beads to children. Every one of those beads represents a specific moment in time. A moment when a child’s spirits were lifted. A moment when courage was honored. A moment when suffering was alleviated.

Beads of Courage, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and teens coping with serious illness, their families, and the clinicians who care for them through our Arts-in-Medicine Programs. We believe in creating a context for caring transactions to transpire through our community and encouragement programs.
Since 2005, Beads of Courage, Inc. has established collaborative partnerships in caring with hundreds of hospitals nationally and internationally and worked with several community organizations to make healing happen through the use of beads as a historical art form.
Through our programs, we provide the opportunity for COURAGE to be honored, HOPE to be given, and JOY to be experienced.
Our Mission
To provide innovative, arts-in-medicine programs for children coping with serious illness, their families, and the clinicians who care for them.
Through our flagship Beads of Courage Program, children receive colorful beads that visually symbolize moments of courage along their treatment journey. Our organization improves the quality of life of more than 60,000 children receiving treatment for serious illness in 400 children's hospitals worldwide.
