Friends,

This April I will pedal away from Boston and join six-time national champion and cyclocross superstar Tim Johnson for his five-day bicycle ride to Washington D.C.

The ride aims to raise $100,0000 for www.peopleforbikes.org, a campaign to promote cycling and raise awareness of bike safety issues. The campaign is run by the Bikes Belong Foundation, a not-for-profit that sponsors riding safety programs, hosts the Safe Routes to School National Partnership for kids, and provides grant money for commuting and cycling infrastructure.

During the 525-mile journey to D.C., Johnson and a group of cyclists purposely use bike paths and urban roads while employing group riding techniques meant to both increase safety and enhance the endurance of the pack.

As a journalist embedded in the group, I hope to relay their stories, riding tips, and thoughts on commuting and safety.

My entry fee to join the ride is $2,000.

Please consider donating. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. And as all money ultimately goes to Bikes Belong Foundation (EIN: 20-4306888), it would also be tax-deductible.

Visit the Ride on Washington website or Facebook page for more info.

And feel free to pass a link to this page along to your cycling friends.

Thank you so much!

Ed Medina
