What started as a small idea that Johnny and I had—to bring a cancer ride to Western Mass—has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined. Today, the Bikes Fight Cancer Ride is a true community event, supporting not only the groundbreaking work at Dana-Farber, but also amazing local organizations like Mass General Cooley Dickinson Cancer Center, Cancer House of Hope, and Cancer Connection.
This June, over 700 participants will come together to use their bikes as a force against cancer—and we couldn’t be more proud of what this community has built.
This will also be my 18th year using my bike to fight cancer in the PMC. Since I first started riding the Pan-Mass Challenge in 2008, I believed in paying it forward, supporting the cancer community with the hope that I’d never need to lean on that support myself. But this past year, everything became much more personal.
My mom was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma—a “treatable” form of cancer—and I witnessed firsthand the impact of the very organizations that Bikes Fight Cancer has been working so hard to support. She was treated at Mass General and later at Cooley Dickinson, and she received compassionate care and critical support from Cancer House of Hope and Cancer Connection. These organizations didn’t just offer treatment and resources—they gave her dignity, strength, and a community when she needed it most.
I still ride for Stirling. Now, I also ride for my mom. And for everyone who deserves access to amazing care, compassion, and community when they are faced with a cancer diagnosis.
What started as a mission I believed in has become a personal promise.
I ride for my mom. I ride for Stirling. I ride for hope. I ride so others can receive the same care when they need it most.
