In honor of my sister, Arlene, I will be participating in the Ride for Mental Health. Arlene was my best friend growing up. She was also a great role model - she taught me how to ride a bike, helped me with school projects, and was always there cheering me on.
I looked up to her and was proud of all her achievements. Arlene knew at a young age that she wanted to pursue medicine like our dad. She graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2002. Arlene was also a Navy veteran and went on to a residency program at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
Despite struggling with a serious mental illness, she did her best to overcome this challenge. I’ll always remember her for her perseverance, strength, and courage.
I greatly appreciate your contribution to this worthwhile cause. Thank you for your support!
The Ride for Mental Health 2025
The Ride for Mental Health is one of the first rides in the country to benefit mental health. The proceeds raised will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, for the education, research, and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. Our mission is to raise funds for McLean so that we can help accelerate the progress being made to help others who suffer from mental illness.
We also hope to end the stigma surrounding mental illness through education and awareness. The promotion of this ride is a start. Many if not most of us are touched by close friends and relatives who have suffered from one type or another of mental illness.
