On June 14th, I will be pedaling my way through the pioneer valley to raise money for Bikes Fight Cancer. 100% of all rider raised funds will support the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
I’m riding this year in honor of one of my oldest and dearest friends, Vicki, along with her husband, Eric, and their sweet daughter, Emaline. Vicki was diagnosed with colon cancer a little over a year and a half ago, during a time when many young people in their 30s and 40s were facing similar diagnoses. Because cancer impacts the entire family, I want to honor them all. Her daughter Emaline drew the photo in my profile picture of their family, and yes, they do have a dog named Goochi!
Vicki is a patient at the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute and is part of a study working to better understand why so many young people are being diagnosed with colon cancer. My own father was also diagnosed with colon cancer at a young age, and I know how incredibly difficult this is for her and her family to go through.
While her care team is based in Boston, she is often able to receive some care locally at Cooley Dickinson, allowing her to avoid some trips to Boston and spend more time with her family.
I ride in honor of her family, for their future, and for all the families who have to face this some set of challenges.
If you’re able, please consider donating to support Team Cooley. Every contribution helps support patient care and families navigating unimaginable challenges, like Vicki.
Thank you for your support, encouragement, and love.
I love you all!
Jenny
