Riding for Heroes – In Memory of Uncle Billy
This year, I ride in memory of my uncle, William "Billy" Borowski—a proud American, a Vietnam veteran, and a beloved member of our family. This year marks the 60th anniversary of his enlistment into the United States Army.
Billy was born in Hudson, Massachusetts in 1944. After graduating from high school, he worked for a surveying company before answering the call to serve his country. In August 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 629th Supply Company, 1st Logistical Command, serving in Vietnam.
While many service members were fortunate to return home from Vietnam, for countless others, the war never truly left them. Sadly, my uncle was one of those. He later developed a rare form of cancer caused by his service in Vietnam and passed away on February 20, 2001.
His story is personal, but it's not unique.
I come from a long line of military service - both of my grandfathers, my father, and three of my uncles served. One grandfather served in the Army, the other in the Navy. My father, pictured with me at Pearl Harbor, also served in the Army. Two of my uncles served in the Army and one in the Navy. I proudly followed in their footsteps and served in the U.S. Navy.
This ride isn’t just for my uncle. It’s for all veterans, and especially for those carrying the visible and invisible scars of service. It's for the men and women currently serving, and for those who gave everything in service to this country.
The sacrifices made by our military—past and present—should never be taken lightly. Those who served in combat carry heavy emotional and physical burdens that stay with them for life. They didn’t start these wars, but they answered the call. They went where they were sent. They defended the freedoms we so often take for granted.
Freedom is NOT free.
On June 7, 2025, I’ll be riding 57 miles in the Veterans Count Ride not just for my uncle, but for all veterans, especially those who are disabled, and for every person currently serving. I ride in support of the countless men and women who have sacrificed so much—and your support can make a meaningful difference.
Why I Ride

How You Can Help
Please consider donating to my fundraising campaign. Your contribution, no matter the amount, goes directly to Veterans Count and is 100% tax deductible. Every dollar you give helps a veteran in need—someone who stood up for us and now needs you to stand up for them.
Or, if you’re feeling inspired, join me and ride alongside to show your support and honor those who have served.
