It's that time again! (Though a little behind.) I am participating this June in The Ride for Mental Health -it will be my 4th time! But most importantly, it is the 10th Anniversary of this Ride.
I am once again tackling the very challening 50-mile north route. Last year I completed it in just over 5 hrs. This year I am setting an ambitious goal of 4 hours for completion. I am also aiming to raise $1250 ($25 per mile).
The Ride for Mental Health is one of the first rides in the country to benefit mental health. The proceeds raised will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, for the education, research and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders and substance use disorders.
In 2023, 58.7 million Americans experienced a mental health condition, approximately 50,000 Americans died by suicide, and 13 million more adults seriously considered suicide. Among youth, almost half (49.5%) have experienced a mental health condition, 3.2 million (1 in 5) high school students seriously considered suicide, and one in 10 attempted suicide. At the same time, 48.5 million Americans were impacted by a SUD, and more than 105,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2023, one of the highest figures on record, with synthetic opioid-related deaths rising more than 100-fold in the past decade. Unfortunatley, funding for mental health and substance use disorder services are under attack - it is more important than ever to raise money.
I greatly appreciate your contribution to this worthwhile cause. Thank you for your support!
The Ride for Mental Health 2026
The Ride for Mental Health is one of the first rides in the country to benefit mental health. The proceeds raised will be donated to McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, for the education, research, and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. Our mission is to raise funds for McLean so that we can help accelerate the progress being made to help others who suffer from mental illness.
We also hope to end the stigma surrounding mental illness through education and awareness. The promotion of this ride is a start. Many if not most of us are touched by close friends and relatives who have suffered from one type or another of mental illness.
