Hey guys,

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, I will be doing something that sounds like a typo: biking up Mount Washington.

That means 7.6 miles of nonstop climbing to the summit of the highest peak in the northeastern United States. The Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb is considered by many to be one of the steepest and toughest cycling races in the world — which is a polite way of saying I have voluntarily signed up to suffer slowly, publicly, and at altitude.

Mount Washington is also famous for having some of the worst weather on Earth. Hurricane-force winds show up there about 100 days a year. So my race strategy is simple: pedal upward, avoid falling over, and ideally not get blown back down into Gorham.

But there is a very good reason for all this questionable decision-making. The Hillclimb is the largest annual fundraiser for Tin Mountain Conservation Center, an organization that has provided environmental education to more than 75,000 students, campers, and community members across northern New Hampshire and western Maine for over 34 years.

I would be grateful for your support. Your donation will help Tin Mountain continue its work connecting kids and communities with nature — and it will also give me one more reason not to quit halfway up and pretend I was “just there for the views.” It also help me not to pay all the foundraising amount out of my pocket :D.

Thank you so much for helping me turn leg pain into environmental education.
