Update…. Yes, I am back to it! Surgery may have derailed the process but with my surgeons approval I am training and planning on participating in the Cancer Charity ride in South Deerfield on June 20th!!!! Now with more reason than ever to tell Cancer to F*** OFF!!
Thank you to all who have donated and sent love and strength my way for the last few months!! I began this journey by signing up for a ride with a wonderful purpose! A few months later I received the diagnosis of Adenocarcinoma in my right lower lung lobe.??
A completely incidental finding from an ER visit last May for abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. My abdominal CT showed a very small nodule in May that when rescanned (in December) had grown and changed some characteristics, not good.
Next was a PET scan and biopsy. The waiting for results seemed like forever! In March the biopsy results came back and on April 7, I had a lobectomy of my right lower lung lobe ?? . The CT after surgery shows we got it all! No chemo/radiation needed! ?? I will be scanned every 6 months for five years and I am more than okay with that! After this experience I want everyone scanned just as much!!!!!!
On to recovery… slow, very slow and frustrating…from triathlons to not walking down a hospital hallway without multiple breaks. (And chest tubes suck btw!!!??) All of the hospital staff were wonderful,I had amazing nurses, aides and docs! Once home, maybe a quarter mile at a time the first week and stairs??? Three at a time…then a break.
I know how lucky ?? ?? I am that we even found this nodule, I was completely asymptomatic. It’s been rough but I am one of the lucky ones to find it early and come back to fight for others!
Also the support I have had, family, my kids, friends & my man (aka my nurse & #1 fan) who was with me for every stage, every appointment, every result, every phone call along the way and the first week and a half post op he didn’t leave my side…walked slow like a tortoise with me (I was so slow ??) to keep me safe and from overdoing things and hurting myself, not letting me be the nurse patient… we are the worst ??…. for the last seven weeks still walking with me and motivating me to get back on my path to stay healthy, he has been my caretaker and my rock!!! ?? Luis Hernandez ♥? Thank YOU, I Love you!!♥?
