I am very honored and excited to participate in the 10th anniversary Swim With A Mission on July 11th, raising funds for critical services for Veterans and their families. I appreciate your past support and ask for your consideration this year. This year I will be swimming in memory of and in honor of Army Green Beret Shawn Hogan, a fallen soldier from NH. On a personal level I am swimming in memory of my dear parents, my dad Maurice Coppelman, Army WWII, and my mom Mauricette, his "war bride" from Paris.
Every swimmer has a story, a reason why we come together on this day to do something we love for the benefit of those who have given so much to ensure our freedom. Many of you are familiar with my story. Three years ago I swam in this event for the first time on July 15, 2023 which would have been my Dad's 100th birthday. He proudly served in the Army in France during WWII. Our first family vacation was in a little cottage at Woodbury's, and we are still making memories on Newfound Lake as we have loved it for decades.
I am looking forward to gathering under the pines, early on July 11th, with the camaraderie of Veterans, loved ones, swimmers, organizers and volunteers, and swimming to thank, remember, and support all of our Veterans. It will be an honor. We can never do enough. I appreciate your support. Thank you so much.
Since being founded in 2017, Swim With A Mission has given almost $13.6 Million to service and support organizations that provide critical services to our Veterans.
Every year, SWAM focuses on important needs in the Veterans community and provides grants to worthy Veteran service and support programs. Each organization submits an application for a grant so we can consider how the money we raise each year can make the most impact in the community. The recipient of the grants provide services and support including mental health services, scholarships for children of a parent who died in service, taking care of homeless Veterans, providing rides and financial assistance to Veterans, providing health care services to Veterans, providing permanent housing for Veterans, K9’s for Veterans, and help with PTSD.
