This ride is different for me. I spent seven years working in cancer research and observed first-hand the necessity of funding along with the opportunity for waste.  Because of that perspective, I’m particular about the programs I support.  Bikes Fight Cancer won me over.  They use funds to directly support our neighbors when they need it most.  Examples include:

  • Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute at Cooley Dickinson Hospital – $70,000 to the Cancer Patient Care Fund.  This fund covers living expenses like rent, mortgage, and food for people who need support during a dark period.
  • Cancer Connection – $45,000 to expand integrative therapies and outreach across 64 Western Mass. towns.
  • CHD’s Cancer House of Hope – $36,000 to support free programs and services for individuals and families facing cancer.
  • Mass General Brigham Shuttle -- Free weekday shuttle that transports patients between Northampton and Boston.

I don’t need donations to ride a bike.  I’m going to do that anyway.  This ride is a way to advertise an opportunity to help people in our community during a difficult time.  If you have $20 that could make a difference for someone struggling to navigate a cancer diagnosis, please consider donating to Bikes Fight Cancer.
