I'm taking part in this year's New England Classic Cycling Event in order to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association and its Camp Carefree that is located in Durham, New Hampshire.
A few facts about diabetes:
1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year.
12% of Americans had diabetes in 2023 (and this number goes up every year).
115 MILLION American adults are living with prediabetes.
The common conception is that diabetes can be treated with insulin and all will be well. But it's not always that simple for the folks who have diabetes as they have to monitor their conditon every waking hour of the day. Unfortunately, complications from diabetes can be fatal. I know that first hand as my Dad passed away at the young age of 47 from such complications.
i don't believe that would have happened today because of advanced treatment techniques with many of those develped by scientists whose work was funded by the ADA. Please help keep the research going with your donation as well as programs such as Camp Carefree that are fun for kids while educating them in how to live effectively with their diabetes.
Your donation fuels my training miles as I prepare for the roughly four day 300 mile adventure through the hills (and hopefully valleys) of New Hampshire and Maine.
Greatly appreciated!
