Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting my White Mountain Gran Fondo fundraising page in support of City Year! It is a privilege to support this great program that "fills the gap" between what our nation's schools can provide, and the additional skills students need to succeed in their adult lives. City Year imparts enthusiasm and respect for education, teaches responsibility and accountability, and prepares students for the social interactions required to succeed, develop a fulfilling career, and be an integral and productive part of their communities. Three of my friends are City Year graduates and I can tell you personally that they and their communities have benefited enormously from the program!
To support this great cause, I will be riding with my friend Tom over 100 miles and climbing almost 6000 feet vertically through some of our nation's most beautiful lands in the White Mountain National Forest and several of New Hampshire's State Parks.
The White Mountain Gran Fondo raises money by strength numbers, there will be LOTS of us riding, so each rider's goal is a modest $150....and I'm hoping a bunch of my friends and family each toss 10 bucks in....of course any amount will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Kevin.
White Mountain Gran Fondo
The White Mountain Gran Fondo presented by Bank of New Hampshire is a one day cycling challenge to benefit City Year New Hampshire's work to increase the local and national graduation rate (www.cityyear.org). Gran Fondos are long distance, mass-participation cycling events that have been extremely popular in Europe and are growing fast in the US. This Gran Fondo is a timed loop through the White Mountains of New Hampshire with three ride options: a 100 mile Gran Fondo, a 50 mile Medio Fondo, and a 25 mile Piccolo Fondo - each a true feat for cyclists seeking adventure with daring terrain and breathtaking scenery. City Year is an education-focused nonprofit organization that works to help keep students in school and on track to graduate by uniting teams of diverse, young AmeriCorps members for a year of full-time service in schools. Evidenced-based research has identified the early-warning indicators allowing us to identify the students likely to drop out of school. By focusing on attendance, behavior, and course performance, corps members are uniquely able to help students and schools succeed.
