And the years passed like scenes of a show
The professor said to write what you know
Looking backwards might be the only way to move forward
– TS, The Manuscript
Hi, and welcome! I'm so happy you're here.
One in three women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. I am one of them.
For what felt like forever, I lived with the agony of feeling unsafe in my own home—while also feeling incredibly ashamed of the secret life I was trying so hard to hide. As an educated, professional, and privileged woman, I should've known better. I let things get so bad and out of control.
The shame was powerful. What would people think?
One morning, the stars aligned, and I finally felt brave enough to act. I found an escape route for me and my dog. It was not easy, and it was not quick, and it's had lasting impacts on my physical and mental health. But I am one of the lucky ones. I'm here today to tell my story.
Unfortunately, too many survivors don't have the same resources—money, time, education, transportation, housing, and a supportive network—that helped build me and my dog a bridge to safety. Too many are not here to tell their stories.
I joined the Alianza Board of Directors because everyone deserves to live free from violence—and free from shame. Alianza helps individuals find safety, build stability, and move forward with hope. Through crisis services, community outreach, education, and prevention efforts, Alianza empowers survivors, promotes safety, and builds a stronger, informed community.
As Board President, my personal mission is to shine a light on this exceptional resource in our community and ensure Alianza has the funding necessary to support every survivor that reaches out. I had no idea Alianza existed when I needed help. Now, I take every opportunity to share their mission with friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Domestic violence doesn't discriminate. Everyone knows someone.
This September, I'm walking with the best team ever, the Swiftie Squad, in the first-ever Alianza Cider Donut Dash—a chance to celebrate survivors and families and to raise critical funding for Alianza. I would be so grateful for your support. Every donation makes a difference.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting Alianza, and for supporting me.
'Cause I thought that I'd never find that beautiful, beautiful life that
Shimmers that innocent light back
Like when we were young
