Welcome to my JDRF ODRAM fundraising page!
I’m taking part in the 2016 ODRAM, along with hundreds of riders from around the world, to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
I decided on this ride for many different reasons. I know several people whose lives have been affected by this disease. This all hit close to home however when my friends little boy was diagnosed. Here's his story!
Declan was your average 2 year old when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He was happy and energetic and then one day in May 2015, he was not acting like himself. He slept all day and wouldn't eat anything. The next day he went to the Doctor for a checkup and 3 hours from the appointment and a couple of tests later Declan's parents received a call and were heading to the Children's hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Life has changed for the family with carb counting, blood glucose checks and insulin injections however Declan has handled it like a champ. He is still the happy energetic boy from before. He does not cry during the checks or injections and he is so smart . He loves to show anyone whose interested how he "pokes his fingers" and how the insulin pens work. Before the diagnosis Declan was underweight and now he's in the 50-75 percentile for weight and 75 percentile for height. With the help of the Diabetes Clinic at the Alberta Childrens Hospital and JDRF Declan is flourishing and loving life. He plays soccer, swims and is learning how to skate so one day he can play hockey. With all the support his family has received Declan is able to grow up and enjoy the same things as his friends with just a few extra steps.
I have been hard at work training and fundraising, and your gift today will propel me toward the finish line. Please donate and help JDRF achieve its goal of a world without T1D.
Please check back to view my fundraising progress as my ODRAM weekend approaches. Thank you for your support.
