The picture above is of our little girl. She was diagnosed with Type 1, or Juvenile Diabetes at 18 months old. She has never known any different and deals with the management of her diabetes in a way that astounds me. She is my hero and if you could witness her test her own blood sugar you would understand.
Last year I participated in an organized ride to raise money for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and I was hooked. After that event I set out looking for something similar that would raise money directly for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) I was initially intimidated by the length of this ride, but this year I am taking part in the 2016 One Day Ride Across Michigan (ODRAM) to raise money for JDRF.
JDRF is working every day to change the daily challenges associated with Type 1 diabetes, and every dollar I raise helps them continue to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.
Thank you for your support, money this year goes directly to helping kids like our daughter.
Welcome to her world
Her world of A1c's and ABC’s
Of a stab in thigh without knowing why
Her world of counting sugars and "don't eat your boogers!"
Of living in dread about "dead in bed"
Her world of a a new pump site, without a fight,
Of carb charts and sticker hearts
Her world of princess dresses and suppressed defenses
Of failed explaining and potty training
Her world of a ticklish neck and a late night blood check
Of curly hair and not fair!
Her world of highs and lows and painted toes
Of the ADA and DKA
Her world of charging cables and food labels
Of diet soft drink and all things pink
Her world at three years old, is about keeping blood sugar controlled
