As an oncologist who specializes in blood cancers at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, I treat patients with lymphoma, leukemia and myeloma. These are devastating diseases that currently affect more than 1.2 million people in the U.S. and that take about 160 lives every day.
One of my patients was Norman deLeuze, a Napa winemaker who told me more than a decade ago he thought chemotherapy was poisonous and wanted a less toxic approach to his lymphoma. He discovered a naturopathic remedy made from fermented wheat germ that remarkably shrunk his tumor. Norman eventually lost his battle with cancer, but his ambition lives on in an endowment established by his family to support my research and fulfill his dream.
Proceeds from the Crush Challenge will directly help UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center continue development of a non-toxic cure for lymphoma. Already, with the family’s support, our efforts have resulted in prominent publications, a patent and funding of more than $1 million.
Please join me and my UC Davis Health team to support this year’s Crush Challenge. Every donation helps drive this innovative and important journey of discovery. Only together can we crush cancer.
The Crush Challenge was established in 2014 as a way to showcase the best of the Napa Valley while bringing awareness and funding to a select group of worthy charity efforts. Whether you join us for one of our incredible food and wine events, the private ride, or perhaps the entire weekend, we are excited to see you at the 4th Annual Crush Challenge, hosted by The deLeuze Family Charitable Foundation and ZD Wines.
Since the inception of the event, The Crush Challenge has distributed over $225,000 to the various benificiaries.
We welcome you to join our acclaimed chefs, celebrity guests and professional cyclists past and present October 12, 2019 to enjoy a weekend in the beautiful Napa Valley while helping our deserving beneficiaries: The deLeuze Family Endowed Professorship for the Non-Toxic Cure for Lymphoma, The Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Napa Valley. 100% of our net proceeds will go to these charities.
