My dad is now 3 years cancer-free. We all know how much cancer sucks, but it's not until it comes home to you that you realize how ubiquitous it is.
This weekend, I am riding my bike over roads that were seemingly made explicitly for not-bikes. I am doing so to benefit the Massey Cancer Center at VCU, folks who work hard to help people like my dad.
I hope to never know the mental and physical pain my dad endured in order to beat cancer. The least I can do is raise some money for others who do, and make my legs hurt real bad in the meantime.
Climb to Conquer Cancer, Powered by CapTech
Climb to Conquer Cancer is a bike ride that features two competitive climbs up iconic Libby Hill in Richmond, Virginia. This hill, made famous during the 2015 UCI Road World (Cycling) Championships, is curvy and made of cobblestones. Not everyone can climb the hill, but competitors will do so in order to raise funds for those fighting cancer. For those climbing their own hill.
The award ceremony, featuring red polka dot jerseys awarded to the "King of the Mountain" and "Queen of the Mountain" winners by young cancer patients, is the highlight of the event and a touching view of how participants' dollars are making a real difference.
Amy's Army of Cancer Warriors is dedicated to funding life-saving cancer research and to raising awareness and funds for cancer patients. Our two signature events, Pedal through Petals and Climb to Conquer Cancer, are bike rides, but so much more.
