Hi!  Welcome to our fundraising page for the Great Avalonia Trail Trek!  We started our fundraising hikes Saturday a week ago, with the idea to visit a different Avalonia property each day.  There are well-known properties but we are discovering that there are so many gems for us to explore. Please come along on our adventure.  We appreciate any financial support you are able to give to help the work of the Avalonia Land Conservancy in protecting open space for all of us in SE CT.

Our fundraising started with a modest goal of $250, which we offered to match. Our friends have been very generous, and we have met that match goal and surpassed it. We hope following along on this journey will inspire others to help support this worthy cause. We are hopeful that we can raise $1000 for the Great Avalonia Trail Trek. We are very close to that goal thanks to our friends.

The Avalonia Land Conservancy has saved over 4,300 acres in southeastern CT, which provide habitat for wildlife, protect important watersheds, and absorb thousands of metric tons of CO2 each year!

We have a posting on Betsy's FaceBook page but if you don't see those and would like to explore where we have been the links to our AllTrails trips are below:

Day Eight - The Avalonia preserves of White Cedar Swam, tying into Dean's Mill Wildlife Corridor, and then jumping across the street to the Pequotsepos Preserves and Perkins Wildlife Corridor which connect beautifully into the trails of the Pequotsepos Nature Center, Denison Farm Homestead, Coogan Farm, and Avalonia Pequotsepos Brook/ Stone Bridges Preserve (Stonington)  https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/morning-hike-ac0071f--20?p=30845394

We ended our fundraising with a hike through the Avalonia Hoffman Evergreen Preserve. Only a mile from our home, it's been a year since we were there shortly after they had to do some tree clearing management. Many oaks and evergreens had aged out and were removed due to being dead or dying from drought, disease, and insect damage—such a drastic scene from the comfortable forested hikes of past years. We wanted to see how the preserve was healing. We were amazed at the powers of Mother Nature. Not yet the magnificent forests we once knew, but life is springing forth with young birch and sassafras, and maples and oaks growing from stumps. The trails are now well-marked and well-traveled. I know we will pass on with time, but I am confident that Mother Nature will endure.  Bonus Hike - The Avalonia Hoffman Evergreen Preserve (Stonington) https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/afternoon-hike-0325508--22?p=30917224

The trekking challenge has ended, but Avalonia is still accepting donations for the fundraiser through Nov 1st. If you haven't been able to make a contribution yet, please consider even a $10 donation. All dollars help toward this cause of protecting unique spaces that benefit nature, wildlife, and all of us. https://www.Pledgereg.com/274210

Lastly, anyone who would like to take a hike with us on one of these great preserves, let us know; we will be happy to hike along with you and experience our great Avalonia preserves! Thanks to everyone who has journeyed along with us on this trek and hope to see you on an Avalonia trail one day soon :)

I hope you will support us with a tax-deductible donation. Small or large, all your contributions mean so much to us and your donation will help Avalonia continue its important work!

Thank you! Betsy and Bob Graham
