Friends, family and colleagues,
I’m writing to ask for your support as I gear up for my first charity bike ride: The Ride for Mental Health. The event takes place in a few weeks, June 22nd and 23rd in New Paltz, NY. It’s a 25 mile charity bike ride to support research, education and treatment of mental illness and to help fight the stigma associated with mental illness. All of the proceeds raised by riders are donated directly to programs at McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, specializing in psychiatric treatment.
If we take a moment, we can all identify a connection to this very personal affliction. From depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bi-polar disorder to drug overdoses and suicide - mental illness has no bias. I have lost family, friends and collegues who suffered from a variety of related illnesses. I am now taking some steps (or in this case pedals) to do what I can for a more positive future of mental health sufferers.
This is one of the first charity events in the United States with the proceeds going to benefit mental health. Last year The Ride raised $150,000 with 100% of the rider pledges donated to McLean. This year, McLean is working hard to raise $200,000 for McLean.
And, my personal goal is $1,000.
