Thank you for visiting my Hike for Hunger fundraising page! I’m hiking to raise money for the Amherst Survival Center to make sure our neighbors have access to healthy food for themselves and their families.
As the Development Coordinator at the ASC for the last seven years, I've been behind a lot of fundraising activities -- asking others to donate, come to events, be a sponsor, and fundraise on our behalf. This time it's my turn to ask friends and family to support a place and a mission I care deeply about. The Amherst Survival Center changes lives. It gives people peace of mind and a little security, when they know they can get free food and put their limited resources toward other expenses, such as gas, utilities, rent, childcare, and supplies, clothes and activities for their children.
The Amherst Survival Center is so much more than a place to get a meal, free groceries, and fresh produce, though these are all very important. It is at its core a community center where people can come for community, companionship, and peer support. It was founded on the ideal that everyone has something to offer (be it time, a skill or expertise, some outgrown clothes, etc.) and something they might need (food, friendship, purpose) -- and in sharing our resources there is enough for everyone.
Will you help me make a difference for families facing food insecurity?
Throughout the pandemic, the Amherst Survival Center remained open, dramatically increased the amount of food they provided to people, and expanded access by offering grocery delivery, curbside pick-up, and low-contact pick up at the Center. We maximize all the free resources we can to make sure every dollar donated is invested in our programs.
