The Tucson Community Cares Foundation is an all-volunteer group that was created in 2008 during the height of the Iraqi War to address Department of Defense funding gaps relative to the needs of Davis-Monthan Airmen and their families during deployments.
We provide request driven direct program funding and leverage community in-kind donations as appropriate. Our activities include aiding family members while their active-duty member is deployed, helping single airmen, helping deployed members with programs upon their return, educating the whole family to learn skills to cope with family changing dynamics before, during and after deployment, and providing support to base-wide morale boosting events.
Our signature "Adopt-A-BAirman" is held on an as needed basis and allows families to enjoy recreational bonding time at a local entertainment facility like the Reid Park Zoo prior to deployment. Each child is able to select and stuff a huggable teddy bear of their choice. A pressure sensitive voice box upon which the deploying parent can record a message is inserted into each bear, creating a tangible bond between the parent and child during their separation.
Given the specialized nature of many of the units at Davis-Monthan, the need to support deploying airmen will continue at a high pace. With your help we can show these families that the Tucson Community does Care!
