As a parent and an avid cyclist, the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail is more than just a path; it's a vision for a safer, healthier, and more connected community. Right now, finding a safe place to take my kids for a bike ride, a hike, or just to enjoy the outdoors feels like an uphill battle. We shouldn’t have to travel out of town to find a decent trail. The Georgia Hi-Lo Trail will change that, offering a 211-mile paved, road-separated haven that stretches from Union Point to Savannah, passing through small towns that deserve just as much access to outdoor fun as the big cities.
I’m passionate about this project because it’s about more than just today—it's about the future. I want my kids to grow up in a place they love and want to return to, where they can safely explore the outdoors close to home. The trail will connect two key projects:
- Firefly Trail: Starting in Athens and ending in Union Point, the Firefly Trail will eventually span 39 miles. Although we aren’t fundraising directly for this part, it's a vital piece of the overall vision, having paved the way (literally and figuratively) for trails across Georgia since 2007.
- Georgia Hi-Lo Trail: This is where we’re focusing our efforts. The Hi-Lo Trail will pick up where the Firefly Trail leaves off, stretching 211 miles from Union Point to Savannah. It will bring new life to rural Georgia, providing a safe space for everyone, from local families to long-distance cyclists.
By supporting this trail, you’re helping build something that will benefit generations to come. Join me in making the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail a reality, and let’s create a legacy of safe, accessible outdoor spaces for all.

Georgia Hi-Lo Trail is a nonprofit 501(c)3 dedicated to driving opportunity and development to empower rural Georgia by connecting an eight-county region with America's longest trail.
When complete the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail will connect to the Firefly Trail. The two trail projects will form a 250-mile paved, road-separated path through small Georgia towns from Athens to Savannah.
Firefly Trail, Inc. began their work in 2007 and have been true “trail blazers” across small communities in Georgia. The Firefly Trail begins in Athens and will end in Union Point, a distance of 39 miles when completed. Georgia Hi-Lo Trail will connect to the Firefly Trail in Union Point and continue on to Savannah through a 211-mile stretch through rural Georgia. Together the trails will connect communities and small towns from Athens to Savannah, driving opportunity for economic development and improved quality of life in rural Georgia.
