On June 14th, I will be pedaling my way through the pioneer valley to raise money for Bikes Fight Cancer. 100% of all rider raised funds will support valuable cancer care services to patients, families and caregivers as well as funding hospitals focused on advancing cancer research.
I will be riding with a group from "Rock Voices" organized by the founder of "Rock Voices," Tony Lechner. I know there are biking fundraisers to raise money to fund cancer research (PanMass Challenge, for instance) or palliative care (Dempsey Challenge). I have done each of those rides three times and they are great. Bikes Fight Cancer will send 100% of all donations to cancer research, to well-known organizations such as Dana Farber, and also to some Western Massachusetts hospitals and care providers doing incredible work.
We all have felt the wrath of cancer, either personally or with loved ones. When I think of the people cancer has claimed I first think of Rich Quitadamo. It didn't matter to cancer that Rich was in terrific shape, that he was a great husband, wonderful father, magnificent uncle and great friend to many. Cancer chose him and he fought it with his head held high until he couldn't. Hopefully, with money raised through events like Bikes Fight Cancer, we can find cures for the different forms of cancer that exists.
I understand everyone is being asked to donate to lots of different events, so don't feel bad if your donations have already been made. If you can donate, nothing is too little.
