Thank you for checking out my fundraising page! I put down my bike years ago; but I am excited to be peddling again to ride for Resilient Roots. As you know, I recently started working for this Cape Cod based nonprofit which is dedicated to inspiring and enabling people to grow more of our own "human" food, and include more native and edible plants in our landscapes as a way of regenerating the ecosystem's health as well as our own.
Recently as I was going through our Resilient Roots files, I found a heart-felt endorsement of a friend: "Resilient Roots is about far more than food. It's about connecting with the land we are living on...conversations with our neighbors as they see changes in our garden-scapes, and becoming part of a community of caring, warm people who learn and laugh together, supporting each other on the journey."
In this time of so much upheaval and disconnection - Resilient Roots focuses on connection. Connections to each other, our land, and our communities in this special place. We remember together some wise "old" ways of earth care, and learn some new. And in the process of learning and working with this vulnerable, but resilient Cape Cod, that we all call home - we find hope and meaning together.
I wholeheartedly believe in our mission and appreciate your support so we might further our educational work.

Resilient Roots
Overview
The Second Summer Cycle is the perfect event for riders of all levels, offering a picturesque journey through 8 historic Cape Cod towns and a strong commitment to rider safety. Four distances are being offered, 15, 34, 60, and 101 miles. The start and finish is at beautiful Smugglers Beach in South Yarmouth where there will be a Finish Line Celebration from 12PM-5PM, including local beer, food trucks and live music.
Routes & Registration

Starts and Finishes: Starts and finishes will be at staggered times starting at 7:00AM from Smugglers Beach in South Yarmouth.
Registration Pricing:
- Century (101 miles): $125
- Almost Metric Century Plus (60 miles): $95
- 34 Mile Ride: $80
- 15 Mile Ride: $60
Safety
Safety: We will have marshals at every turn to help guide riders, and motorcyclists will be patrolling the entire course.
Support services: Bike shops will be represented along the course to help with any technical issues. There will also be SAG (support and gear) vehicles to help riders who need support or a pickup along the course.
Hydration and Nutrition: Ample hydration and nutrition stops will be strategically positioned along the course, along with medical and physical therapy stations equipped with tents and tables to ensure participants' comfort and well-being. The Hydration and Nutrition stops will be approximately every 15 miles.
Medical and Physical Therapy: There will be medical and physical therapy support at the Hydration and Nutrition stops.
Beneficiaries
21 Cape Cod non-profit organizations will benefit from the monies generated by the riders, each of whom is asked to raise at least $250 for their non-profit of choice, or to be disseminated across all participating charities, in addition to the registration fee.
Beneficiaries: All money raised by the riders will be paid directly to the beneficiaries. Riders are expected to raise at least $250 each, and each beneficiary team is expected to raise $5,000.
Finish Line Celebration
The Finish Line Celebration will take place from 12PM-5PM at Smuggler's Beach. You will be able to dance to the music of a great local band. You will have $30 in vouchers to use at food and beverage trucks as part of your registration fee to purchase food or beverages from 4 different food trucks, to include cold beverages provided by Barnstable Brewing Company, with Second Summer Cycle cans as memorabilia!
Changing your clothes at the finish: If you wish to change your clothes at the finish, changing rooms will be provided.

The Resilient Roots riders are pedaling in support of local efforts that help Cape Codders grow more of their own food organically and include more native and edible plants in their landscapes. We envision a region of interconnected backyards that are abundant with food, support the native pollinators forming the foundation of the food web, provide wildlife habitat, and avoid pesticides and other chemicals in order to protect our water resources.
All money raised by our riders will go directly to the environmental education and hands-on projects of Resilient Roots, including its gardening workshops, open-to-the-public demonstration garden that grows produce for local food pantries, and creation of yards featuring low-maintenance, edible, and native plants for new Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod affordable homes.
Resilient Roots aims to reconnect people to the earth through gardening and landscaping that feeds us, protects our water, restores wildlife habitat, and enables critical pollinators to thrive. We do this through hands-on gardening and environmental education workshops, landscape design consultations, and free online resources.
We also collaborate with Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod to provide homeowners low-maintenance and edible landscapes at their new, affordable home sites. We lease property from Barnstable Land Trust for a garden that demonstrates nature-based, organic growing practices to the public and that donates its produce to local food pantries and kitchens.
Working with the land in a way that mimics nature regenerates our ecosystem's health as well as our own. With your help, our vision of a Cape full of healthy, live-giving backyards can become a reality: outdoor spaces that are abundant with food, support the pollinators working at the foundation of our food web, avoid pesticides and other harmful chemicals in order to protect our water, and allow all our wildlife relatives to coexist.
