This is my third year participating in the New England Classic Charity Bike Tour to benefit American Diabetes Associations Camp Carefree. They have 1, 2, and 4 day events (overlapping), and I am doing the 2 day which works out to about 150 miles.
Please Help Me Support Camp Carefree
Camp Carefree is a summer camp that gives children with diabetes the chance to enjoy a normal camp experience while learning to live healthy, active lives. It serves more than 130 children each summer, providing a safe, fun, and medically supported environment where they can build confidence, make lifelong friends, and simply be kids.
This year, something really struck me. During one of our meetings, the Camp Director told us that without the funds raised through this event, the camp would not have been able to operate this year. Hearing that firsthand made it clear just how important this fundraiser really is.
Diabetes affects more than 40 million Americans, and every 23 seconds someone in the U.S. is diagnosed. While research and education are critical, Camp Carefree provides something equally important—a life-changing experience for children and families living with diabetes.
One thing I especially appreciate about the New England Classic is that it is run entirely by volunteers. From registration, route support, rest stops, meals, bike mechanics, and logistics, volunteers donate their time so that event costs are kept to an absolute minimum. That means more of the money raised goes where it belongs—supporting Camp Carefree and the mission of the American Diabetes Association.
