Dear family and friends,
On the weekend of July 11-12, I will be participating in the New England Classic Charity Bike Tour, an American Diabetes Association fundraiser in New Hampshire. The money we raise will go to research as well as Camp Carefree, a summer program that provides a supportive, fun and educational camping experience for children with Type 1 diabetes. While advances in research continue to improve diabetes management, there is currently no cure. I recall receiving my diagnosis 38 years ago and can well imagine how daunting such news is to a young person and their family. Learning how to manage one’s blood glucose levels is an ongoing challenge, affected by the foods we consume, the amount of insulin in our bodies delivered by injections or a pump, as well as exercise, illness and even stress. It’s a lot for an adolescent new to the disease to grasp.
I hope you will join me in making it possible for more young people to have a summer experience in a supportive community where they’ll learn to manage their diabetes care and perhaps for the first time, be among other kids who understand these challenges. My minimum fundraising level of $3,000 though my goal is to exceed it. Whatever amount you feel comfortable giving, your donation will further research towards a cure and support a summer opportunity for young people dealing with the ongoing challenges of diabetes management. Please make a donation to the New England Classic Charity Bike Tour in my name by visiting Jane Klemmer's Fundraising Page
Thanks in advance for donating to what I believe is a very worthwhile cause.
With much appreciation,
Jane
