I'm riding in the 2027 Gear Up Against Kids Cancer bike ride to help support childhood cancer research at the Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute at UT San Antonio.
Every mile I ride has a purpose: helping researchers discover better treatments and brighter futures for children facing cancer. Funds raised through Gear Up stay local and directly support the important research happening right here in San Antonio.
I'm asking my friends, family, coworkers, and community to join me by donating to my fundraising page. Every gift—no matter the size—moves us another mile closer to better treatments and cures.
Thank you for supporting my ride, this mission, and the children and families we're riding for.
When fighting cancer, NO KID rides alone.
6th Annual Gear Up Against Kids Cancer
Every Mile. Every Rider. Every Child.
This isn’t just a bike ride. It’s hundreds of riders coming together for one mission: helping give children with cancer more tomorrows.
Since 2022, more than 1,600 cyclists from across Texas have geared up for Gear Up Against Kids Cancer. Together, they’ve ridden nearly 69,000 miles and raised more than $104,000 to support childhood cancer research at the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute at UT San Antonio.
Those miles help fuel researchers working toward better treatments, new discoveries, and brighter futures—so more children can celebrate the moments that matter: birthdays, first days of school, graduations, and everything that comes after.
On Saturday, May 1, 2027, we ride again.
Now entering its 6th year, Gear Up Against Kids Cancer brings cyclists of all experience levels together in Floresville for an unforgettable day of riding, community, and purpose.
Choose Your Challenge
Whether you're looking for your first cycling challenge or ready to tackle a metric century, there’s a route for you.
Ride through the quiet rural roads, rolling ranchland, and wide-open South Texas countryside of Wilson County. Along the way, enthusiastic volunteers, well-stocked rest stops, mechanical assistance, SAG vehicles, first aid personnel, and dedicated route support will be there to help keep you moving.
Choose your distance. Set your goal. Ride at your pace.
But whatever route you choose, every rider is part of the same team, and every mile supports the same mission.
Crossing the finish line is an accomplishment.
Knowing why you crossed it is what makes Gear Up different.
Ride for the researchers working toward the next breakthrough.
Ride for the families who need hope.
Ride for the children still fighting.
And ride for the future we believe is possible.
Gear Up. Take on the challenge. Be part of something bigger than the ride.
Because when fighting cancer, NO KID rides alone.
About the Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute - UT San Antonio
Since 2004, the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute at UT San Antonio has advanced scientific knowledge of childhood cancer, uncovered its causes, and accelerated the development of innovative therapies. Greehey CCRI aims to make a national and global impact on childhood cancer by discovering, developing, and sharing groundbreaking scientific insights. Our mission centers on three core areas: research, clinical advancement, and education.
Research Strengths
Our key strengths lie in cancer genomics, DNA damage, RNA biology, and drug development.
We are also building expertise in drug delivery, with a focus on nanotechnology-driven approaches for delivering small RNA mimics and inhibitors.
The Pediatric Translational Working Group, established under the Mays Cancer Center P30, meets regularly to collaborate on translating discoveries into innovative therapies.

Core & Research Services
Clinical
The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (Greehey CCRI) collaborates closely with the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at UT Health San Antonio to support clinical research initiatives. This includes collecting and annotating clinical specimens to advance patient-centered research. As part of our mission to conduct research that directly informs clinical care, Greehey CCRI provides the essential infrastructure for human subjects’ research and investigator-initiated trials in pediatric cancer. Given the collaborative nature of pediatric cancer research, Greehey CCRI also facilitates investigators' involvement in national cooperative group trials, such as those led by the Children’s Oncology Group.
UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center is also a member of The Pediatric Oncology Experimental Therapeutics Investigators’ Consortium (POETIC). POETIC studies in pediatric oncology focus on the biological underpinnings of anti-cancer therapies and the early-phase development of new agents and innovative therapeutic combinations.
Education
The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute is dedicated to training the next generation of pediatric cancer researchers. Our educational mission focuses on developing a robust pipeline of talent, offering opportunities for undergraduates through summer research programs, medical students in the MD with Distinction in Research program, fellows in the ACGME-accredited hematology-oncology fellowship, and graduate students in Cancer Biology and related fields. We also provide a supportive environment for postdoctoral research training. Over the past five years, we have graduated over a dozen PhDs, trained four pediatric oncology fellows, and hosted numerous undergraduate students for summer research.
