Hello, friends! Did you know that Mercer County is 23% preserved open space?

The Sourland Conservancy's work is focused on protecting, promoting, and preserving some of that space... the Sourland Mountain Region. The Conservancy's stewardship projects have directly addressed serious ecological challenges in recent years. The emerald ash borer has damaged a significant portion of the Sourland's forest land; this loss has had far-reaching effects on the forest’s ability to provide essential ecosystem services, including filtering air and water, reducing stormwater runoff, sequestering carbon, and offering critical habitat for wildlife. Among the species affected are 57 state-listed threatened and endangered species that rely on the Sourland region for survival.

In another kind of preservation, the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) and the Sourland Conservancy were pleased to announce in 2022 that the two organizations’ jointly-owned historic True Farmstead on Hollow Road in Skillman would receive $75,000 from the Preserve New Jersey Historic Preservation Fund.

Supporting the Sourland Conservancy is supporting multiple restoration projects and ongoing educational programming throughout the region... thank you for considering a gift at any level!

in peace,

Shelley
