Dear Family and Friends,
This Saturday is our team ERRACE Charity ride. My daughter, Carolyn will be joining me on the ride again this year. She also is a member of our team this year and has plans for a full cyclocross season this fall along with high school field hockey. I am incredibly proud to have her by my side and I absolutely love watching her race a bike! She is fierce!
Our team has had a successful season of racing so far. Our women's team placed first in New England Criterium Week the end of June, winning over $1600 in prize money for the week. All of our race winnings go to our charities, so it was a spectacular week of racing!
This team never ceases to amaze me and the support we give one another is unmatched. I am so proud to be a part of it and still pinch myself that it is real! I look forward to finishing out the road season, supporting my team the best that I can and getting ready for Cross racing in the fall. That will bring me right up thru December and after a little rest, I will lace up the kicks and start my training for my 6th Boston Marathon! Time flies when you are racing for something bigger than yourself. Being part of this team has been a huge honor and means the world to me. I am incredibly grateful for this group of athletes and friends. More importantly, for the work we do to benefit our charities and for our role in the fight against cancer. I hate cancer. I really do. I hate that it takes people we love too early and leaves a forever void. I miss my mom every single second and I hate going through life without her. But hate isn't a productive word in my mind. Love is. I love team ERRACE. I love that we take something awful like cancer and channel it into something good. I love that we share our love for our sport and inspire others to do the same. I am proud of where our race winnings go, funding ideas of prevention and providing resources for people already diagnosed who define what it means to Livestrong and also supporting treatment and clinical research for the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center.
So on Saturday, Carolyn and I will be the first R of ERRACE. We will ride with our minds, bodies and spirits dedicated to carrying on for my mom and with the hopes of someday preventing others from losing a loved one to cancer. ERRACE has given me an outlet for my competitive spirit and a reason for my footsteps and pedal strokes. Your support helps me keep going when I want to stop. ERRACE—Everyone Ride/Run Against Cancer Everyday, is a one-day event will held at the Avon Cancer Center on Saturday, July 8, 2017and will include a 25, 50, or 100-mile bike ride, 15 mile mountain bike ride and a 5 run/walk. The beneficiaries are the Hartford Hospital Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center of Avon, and the LiveStrong Foundation.
The ERRACE organization was created by a group of professionals with common goals. Together we strive to raise the awareness of cancer, raise funds for cancer research and to inspire the community to be active and health conscious.
We bring together our expertise from multiple aspects of business management, healthcare, community work, fund-raising and athletic endeavors. We are excited to share a fun, safe and inspiring event with the community for years to come.
