Per the team tradition of devising a creative fundraiser pledge, I've decided to do a fasted endurance ride at ERRACE.
I chose this challenge because many people battling cancer often have a hard time staying properly nourished as treatments can have a volatile impact on their ability to hold food down or even maintain appetite, making further treatment and recovery all the more difficult. This is just one of the many struggles they face and it is one that is often overlooked. Hopefully a several hour ride without fuel will be able to symbolize this trial many people do not even realize is endured every day by those fighting cancer.
For every $200 I raise, I will ride one hour without food. This might sound easy but anyone who has bonked on a ride they didn't bring enough calories for will understand how hard anything past two hours like this will be. This should end up as a 5 hour ride at the least, and I'll be using the 100 mile course in which there are no shortcuts to be had, with the company of other riders as my only resource. If I need more than the century course, I'll recruit the 25 mile course to add on. Once the ride begins, no calories will be taken on, not even drink mixes. I'll have water and only water. Pleasd donate as much as you can and give me a challenge!
Thank you so much for helping me ERRACE cancer and I'll see you out there!
