I am excited about taking this ride to raise money and awareness for something that is near and dear to my heart. After retiring from teaching in the public school systems for 25 years I became an instructor for Calmer Choice almost nine years ago. I had begun to see the struggles and challenges that young children were facing as they were growing up in a world impacted by the changes in family structure, sexual identity, increase in drug use, the influence of technology including social media, climate change, political noise and a shift in security in what once seemed to be a safe world. How could I help to provide support to this new generation in a way that builds awareness and resilience? To me the answer was to return to the classrooms and have a different conversation and that was through Calmer Choice. For eight weeks, twice a week I am given the opportunity to work with children in their classrooms and talk about what it means to pay attention on purpose to what is right here with kindness and curiosity. Together we share what it's like to feel strong emotions and to know that there is always a choice that we can make in how we respond to these emotions. We talk about what happens in the brain when we get really excited or angry and how we can learn to notice those feelings and use different tools to help ourselves navigate through them. I have seen first hand the positive impact learning about mindfulness has made on so many of these children's lives. It's like they have been given a super power, a way of managing their lives in a new way, with kindness and self compassion. I believe Calmer Choice must continue to hold a place in our schools and our communities as resource that models kindness and resilience for all. It is a win win for everyone!

Calmer Choice - Second Summer Cycle
A Charity Ride across Cape Cod
What:
Be part of the inaugural Second Summer Cycle! This is an exciting new event led
by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce-- a fully supported, cape wide, charity
ride benefiting 19 nonprofit organizations on Cape Cod. Ride a route of your
choosing: 30, 60+ or 100 miles on beautiful back roads (and the rail trail if you
choose).
100% of the funds raised by riders go directly to the beneficiary of their
choice
Participate in a celebration at the end of the ride with food, music and
Barnstable Brewing beverages Second Summer Cycle Cans as memorabilia. Enjoy
a special day of riding the Cape landscape while also benefiting tens of thousands
of Cape Codders.

Where:
The Century starts in Mashpee, The Metric Century (60+) in Sandwich and the 30
Mile Plus in Orleans. Safety is a top priority, expect support vehicles and police
presence, along with signage and volunteers along the route. All of the rides end
on the Outer Cape with a celebratory event for riders and volunteers.
The routes are not finalized yet. The permitting process is on going but we are very close.

Calmer Choice serves children and those who support them on Cape Cod and surrounding regions by providing evidence-based mindfulness education, training, and mentorship to build resilience, foster compassion, and nurture the wellbeing of all people and communities. Utilizing our innovative, research-informed curriculum, we work in classrooms and community spaces to support individuals in reconnecting with the inner capacities they need to feel grounded, resourced, and capable of leading lives of kindness and compassion towards themselves and others.
