Hi all! Met with the organizer yesterday (10/11) and learned that although they've already raised an impressive $23,000 equating to a day's worth of food for almost 50,000 food insecure and hungry New Yorkers, the campaign goes until the end of October - so there is still time to donate!
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, New York City was facing a profound hunger crisis—particularly in the marginalized communities that City Harvest has long served. Those numbers surged during the pandemic (~38% increase) and show no signs of receding. More than 1.5 million New Yorkers now experience food insecurity, including one in three children (~64% increase since pre-pandemic).
I like City Harvest because they do good work, rescuing leftover food and getting it to people who desperately need it - and what is more basic than having enough to eat?
Nobody—no matter who they are or where they come from—should have to worry about where their next meal will come from. City Harvest is committed to helping feed every New Yorker who was in need before the pandemic and everyone who finds themselves in need of food assistance now.
BTW, donations are 100% tax deductible. If you have any questions about donating in general, ask me.
