Two years ago, a junior at Providence College, I met classmate of mine at the counter of the cafeteria. He had no hair, a small build, and was a native spanish speaker. I remember the crack in his gentle voice when he told me he would never play soccer again. "That's not true, Fernando", I told him. "You'll run again soon!". Three months later I found out cancer had taken him. He never did run again.
My experience painfully illustrates how powerless we are to stopping cancer. Our words cannot stop cancer. Our medical research to date cannot stop cancer. But just because we can't stop it does not mean we can't soften the suffering of those it attacks.
Team ERRACE's Charity ride on Saturday, July 16th is an opportunity to push our own physical limits in solidarity with those who push them just to survive. Events range from 10 to 100 miles. ERRACE stands for "Everyone Run or Ride Against Cancer Everyday". We may not be able to stop cancer, but through your participations and donations, we can soten the suffering with love and care. Last year, 86% of your donations went to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center in Hartford, CT and the Livestrong foundation.

As incentive, for each of you who donate $10 or more for cancer patients (to this link), I will write the name of whomever you wish to remember/support in their fight against cancer on the Jersey I will be wearing as I do the 100 mile Charity ride. ERRACE—Everyone Ride/Run Against Cancer Everyday, is a one-day event will held at the Avon Cancer Center on Saturday, July 8, 2017and will include a 25, 50, or 100-mile bike ride, 15 mile mountain bike ride and a 5 run/walk. The beneficiaries are the Hartford Hospital Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center of Avon, and the LiveStrong Foundation.
The ERRACE organization was created by a group of professionals with common goals. Together we strive to raise the awareness of cancer, raise funds for cancer research and to inspire the community to be active and health conscious.
We bring together our expertise from multiple aspects of business management, healthcare, community work, fund-raising and athletic endeavors. We are excited to share a fun, safe and inspiring event with the community for years to come.
